Held during the annual Perseid meteor shower, this day camp is for students going into 5th – 8th grades who have a strong interest in science, astronomy, and engineering. They will learn about the stars by studying our very own star: the sun. Participants undertake a variety of hands-on projects, such as measuring solar activity, building sundials, cooking in solar ovens, and interacting with professional astronomers on modern research topics. When they are home at night they can observe the sky with home-made telescopes to get a closer look at the moon and planets, attempt to count the stars in the sky, take an imaginary voyage to the other planets of our solar system and learn our way around the summer constellations.
