You’ll wear out your $8 boots while exploring 8 Dollar Mountain’s spectacular outburst of spring bloom in this class designed for wildflower enthusiasts with little experience in plant i.d. The fens, rock outcroppings, seeps and wet meadows host an exceptional diversity of plants that specialize in surviving metal-heavy, nutrient-poor serpentine soils. In the classroom you’ll learn basic plant terminology, practice keying common species, and see collected local specimens in the herbarium created by Keir Morse. Ken will also demonstrate wildflower photography using smart phones and accessories. Then we’ll visit and key out early-blooming plants on SFI land and 8 Dollar Mountain, including cobra lilies, mariposa lilies, shooting stars, late fawn lilies, Waldo rockcress, saxifrage, paintbrush and maybe even fritillaria.
