This is a hybrid residential program for high school students with an interest in hiking, camping, and outdoor adventure. Campers spend their first of four nights at SFI preparing for a two-night backpacking excursion, learning proper packing, backcountry cooking, and water purification skills while unplugging and engaging with peers. The following three days are spent backpacking from one location to another, identifying plants and animals of the Siskiyou mountains, stargazing, and applying Leave No Trace principles. The last night is spent back at SFI’s campus celebrating successes, cleaning up, and reflecting upon participants’ deeper connection to nature and newfound skills. No prior experience required; all meals and backpacking equipment are included in the price.
Participant drop-off on 6/12 between 9:00 AM and 10:00 AM.
Camp ends on 6/16 at 11:00 AM.
Night 1 – participants sleep in yurts/tents at Siskiyou Field Institute
Night 2 – participants sleep in tents while backpacking in Kalmiopsis Wilderness
Night 3 – participants sleep in tents while backpacking in Kalmiopsis Wilderness
Night 4 – participants sleep in yurts/tents at Siskiyou Field Institute
