Learn the basics of how to go backpacking enjoyably with your house on your back!  Learn when, where, and how to backpack in this family-friendly course. We’ll cover preparation, gear, way-finding, considerations on-trail, setting up camp, Leave-No-Trace principles, minimizing risk/maximizing safety and dealing with emergencies. The course will be held over 3 days on two successive weekends. Gain a solid introduction during a Saturday in the classroom/outdoors at SFI, then continue learning and practicing skills on the ground during a short backpacking overnight the following weekend.

Field day is Easy-Moderate (up to 1 mile of hiking per day, with pack).

Families/Kids 12+ encouraged! (Minors must be accompanied by an adult.)
Younger may be approved by instructor depending on experience.
Sliding scale pricing is available for families with children under 18, please pay what you can!
